California Access CA-2002

The California Access CA-2002 is the logical continuation of the Polish floppy disk drive line from Logical Design Group (LDG), released in the early 1990s. While the CA-2001 was a workhorse, the CA-2002 represented a top-of-the-line solution, focused on maximum performance and user comfort.

Unlike the CA-2001, this drive officially supported both sides of the floppy disk without flipping it, offering a capacity of up to 360 KB (similar to the Atari XF551). It featured high-quality Japanese Chinon drives, distinguished by exceptional reliability and a quiet head loading mechanism.

The front panel featured a two-digit LED indicator. It displayed not only the track number but also error codes and the current density mode, making its operation similar to the professional Indus GT. The firmware supported the Ultra Speed protocol, which, when combined with a suitable DOS (for example, SpartaDOS or MyDOS), allowed data to be read 3-4 times faster than a standard floppy disk drive.
