The Astra 1620 is one of the most impressive and powerful disk systems created by Astra Systems for Atari 8-bit computers.
Unlike standard single drives, this device was a "combo" designed for serious users and developers of the time. A single, massive enclosure housed two independent 5.25-inch drives, allowing the system to simultaneously view them as D1: and D2: drives. Each drive supported Double Density, providing 180 KB of storage on each side of the disk. In total, the user had 360 KB of data at their fingertips without having to swap drives. Internally, high-quality full-size drives (usually Tandon TM-100), considered the industry standard for reliability, were used.
The device had its own powerful internal power supply, eliminating the need for external "bricks" to clutter the desk.
