AS BOX SN-360

The AS BOX SN-360 is a rare 5.25-inch floppy disk drive produced by the Polish company AS BOX (Warsaw) in the early 1990s. Designed by the distinguished Polish engineer Sławomir Nienałtowski, the device was versatile and supported SD (90 KB), ED (130 KB), DD (180 KB), and even DSDD (double-sided double density) modes. The standard transfer rate was 19.2 kbps, but with special firmware, it could reach 57.6 kbps.

It included software (SN-Converter) that allowed transferring programs between the Atari and PC. To do this, the floppy disk was formatted on the PC with unusual 256-byte sectors. The "SN-360 Utility" disk included the MY-DOS 4.50T operating system and a set of utility programs.

This device is one of the "gems" of the Polish peripherals market of the time and is closely linked to the history of Mirage (which later evolved from Atari Studio). The Polish retro market in the 1990s spawned many unique solutions due to the shortage of original Atari hardware, and the SN-360 remains one of the most technologically advanced disk drives of the era.
